| The weekend was an exhausting success. I made so many friends in such a short time. And while it was sad to say goodbye, I'm sure we'll keep in touch. I've learned so much, and it's hard to list it all here. I need to go home and take a night off and let all the information sink in. What's so great is that I achieved my goals: to gain insight into a competetive industry and see if it's an avenue I want to pursue. My enthusiasm and passion for creating art and bringing a story to life tells me yes, I would love to illustrate children's books, but I know it won't happen overnight. And I am prepared, in case it never happens at all. This is going to be very hard work. It would be naive of me to think anything else. My goal for the next six months is to review my work, spend time in creating an honest, solid portfolio that best represents my style, and then begin again by reaching out to art directors and publishers in hopes of finding the perfect fit. Perhaps at the California conference in August ... who knows? |
